Zivver Outlook Web Access Add-in v7 release notes

Introduction

This document describes the changes introduced in the Zivver Outlook Web Access Add-in v7.

Info
OWA v7 is currently in Early Access and is not yet generally available. The Zivver Outlook Web Access Add-in v6 remains the default, fully supported version until v7 reaches general availability.

During Early Access, start by rolling out OWA v7 to a small group of early adopters as a pilot, where v7 runs side by side with the existing v6 add-in so the rest of the organization keeps using v6 while you test — see OWA v6 and v7 coexistence for how to set this up. Once testing is successful, you can extend the rollout to your whole organization — see Upgrade to Zivver OWA add-in v7.

Initial v7 version

October 1st, 2026

Because this is the first release of the v7 line, this section describes the overall changes compared to v6, rather than a list of individual fixes. Future v7 releases will be added above.

  • OWA v7 is a rebuild of how the add-in hooks into Outlook. Where v6 intercepted sending through Office's older ItemSend event, v7 uses Microsoft's current OnMessageSend event together with Smart Alerts, Outlook's native warning dialogs. As a consequence:
    • Sending is faster than in v6 — the main reason for this change — because v7 loads its send-time logic ahead of time instead of starting it from cold when the user presses Send.
    • Outlook now shows its own Smart Alert, with an action button that opens the Zivver pane on the step that needs attention, whenever Zivver needs the user's attention during sending, for example for:
      • A business rule warning.
      • An attachment that is still uploading. Outlook's own "this is taking longer than expected" message appears after a few seconds, replacing the dialog that used to block sending in v6.
      • A missing login to Zivver.
Because this is now an Outlook-native pop-up, Zivver has less control over its design and action buttons, so the information shown is sometimes more generic than in previous versions; the specific issue is still shown in the Zivver pane. We expect the gain in sending speed to outweigh this, and welcome feedback on how we can improve it further.
    • The add-in's version number now starts with 7 (for example 7.xxx.y), instead of the shared internal build number shown in v6 (for example 3.xxx.y).
