Update the ZIVVER SyncTool
This document explains how to update the ZIVVER SyncTool. The SyncTool currently has no built-in update mechanism. You will be notified of new SyncTool versions and release notes when you are subscribed to the ZIVVER administrator newsletter.
Visit the SyncTool technical requirements if you are unfamiliar with the technical requirements for the SyncTool.
Update the ZIVVER SyncTool
Get the latest version
Clicking the above link will download a ZIP-file. Unzip the ZIP-file (i.e. the new SyncTool version). You will need all the content of that folder in a later chapter.
Transfer the current SyncTool
You should backup your current version before overwriting it with the new SyncTool version.
- Create a backup folder in Windows File Explorer.
- Move your existing
Zivver.SyncTool.exefile into the backup folder.
.dllfiles in the backup folder. From SyncTool version 1.3.15 and onwards the SyncTool has
.dllfiles associated with
Zivver.SyncTool.exe. If the
.dllfiles are present, transfer them in the backup folder together with the
Zivver.SyncTool.exe. If there are no
.dllfiles it suffices to only transfer the
Zivver.SyncTool.exefrom your SyncTool folder.
Paste the new SyncTool
Now that the current SyncTool is backed up, you should copy-paste the new SyncTool into your SyncTool folder.
.dllfiles from the unzipped folder containing the new SyncTool.
- Paste the above copied files into the SyncTool folder.
The update is now complete.
In the next section you will verify if the update is successful.
Verify that the SyncTool works after updating
After replacing the old SyncTool for the new SyncTool you should verify that it still works as before. You can do this by verifying the version number and running the SyncTool manually after updating.
Verify the version number
Open the new
Zivver.SyncTool.exe and check that you have installed the new SyncTool by the version number in the bottom-left corner.
Running the SyncTool manually
To run the SyncTool manually, you can either:
Open the SyncTool from the SyncTool folder and click Run synchronisation at step 4: Synchronise users/groups.
The SyncTool profiles are usually saved at
%appdata%/Zivver/SyncTool/of the user configured to run the SyncTool. If your profiles are not present, the SyncTool will display a profile named Default. If only a Default profile is displayed, you are probably using a different account to run the SyncTool than the one you are currently logged in with.
OR manually run the task used for automated synchronisation via the Windows Task Scheduler.
You can find the task in the Task Scheduler Library and run it manually to verify the task works. You will find logfiles in the
For example: If you have specified that a service account
sa_zivveris configured to run the SyncTool via the Task Scheduler, then the logfiles can be found in
You have now updated the SyncTool and verified it works after the update.
