Technical requirements

Visit the SyncTool technical requirements if you are unfamiliar with the technical requirements for the SyncTool.

Prerequisites

In order to follow the steps below you need to know which account is used to run the daily synchronisation. You need this information for backing up the SyncTool profiles and verifying the new SyncTool works as expected.

When in doubt which account is used to run the daily synchronisation, open the Windows Task Scheduler and inspect the task that runs the ZIVVER SyncTool. Select the task, go to Security options and verify which account is used under “When running the task, use the following user account:”.

Check the SyncTool version

To check your current version of the SyncTool and verify you have updated to a newer version, you need to check the SyncTool version.

  1. Run the Zivver.SyncTool.exe with any account.
  2. Check out the SyncTool version in the bottom left corner of the SyncTool user interface.

Download the latest version

Download the latest version of the SyncTool

Clicking the above link will download a ZIP-file. Unzip the ZIP-file (i.e. the new SyncTool version).

You can leave the Zivver.SyncTool folder in the downloads folder. You will first verify if the new SyncTool version works as expected before replacing the old SyncTool version with the new SyncTool version.

Back up the old SyncTool version

  1. Create a backup folder in Windows File Explorer and name it ZIVVER SyncTool backup.

Create the backup folder in your existing ZIVVER SyncTool folder for easy reference in the future.
  2. Copy and paste all files in the existing ZIVVER SyncTool folder (e.g. .exe; .exe.config; .dll; dll.config) to your backup folder.

  3. Create a subfolder in the folder ZIVVER SyncTool backup called Profile backup .

  4. Copy and paste all SyncTool profiles (i.e. .xml files) from the directory that stores the SyncTool profiles to the Profile backup folder.

The SyncTool profiles are stored at %appdata%/zivver/synctool for the account that is used by the Windows Task Scheduler to run the daily synchronisation.
    For example C:\Users\svc.zivver\AppData\Roaming\Zivver\SyncTool.

You have now backed up the ZIVVER SyncTool and it’s profiles.

Verify the new SyncTool works as expected

  1. Go to your downloads folder and open the unzipped Zivver.SyncTool folder.
  2. Run the Zivver.SyncTool.exe with the account that is used to run the daily synchronisation via the Windows Task Scheduler.

Hold SHIFT and right-click the file Zivver.SyncTool.exe to Run as a different user when you are logged on to the server with a different account.
  3. Open any SyncTool profile at Step 1: Select sync profile.

  4. Walk through step 2 to 4 and verify everything is working as expected.

  5. At Step 4: Synchronise users/groups click Run synchronisations to run a synchronisation.

  6. Repeat the above three steps for every SyncTool profile in use.
You have now verified the new SyncTool works as expected.

You can inspect the log files to see if the synchronization was successful at %appdata%/zivver/synctool/logs. Please contact support if you run into any errors that you can not resolve yourself.

Replace the old SyncTool with the new SyncTool

When the new SyncTool works as expected you can replace the old SyncTool version with the new SyncTool version from your Downloads folder. This section assumes the old SyncTool version is already backed up.

  1. Go to your downloads folder and open the unzipped Zivver.SyncTool folder.
  2. Copy all files in the folder (e.g. .exe; .exe.config; .dll; dll.config files).
  3. Go to your existing ZIVVER SyncTool folder and paste the new SyncTool files over the old files.
You should now be prompted to agree to replace the files in the targeted folder.
  4. Agree to replace the files in the targeted folder for all files.
  5. Run the Zivver.SyncTool.exe with any account.
  6. Verify the SyncTool version is updated.
You have successfully updated the ZIVVER SyncTool.
