Delete the New Outlook

Introduction

The new Outlook interface offers modern features and a refreshed user experience. Unfortunately, this version is not compatible with the Zivver Office Plugin, which may lead to functionality limitations. To ensure that users can continue using Zivver without issues, it is necessary to block the use of the new Outlook interface.

This guide explains how to do this in three clear steps:

  1. Prevent users from switching to “the New Outlook”. You can do this by disabling the “Try the New Outlook” toggle.
  2. Remove the New Outlook app. This removes the application from users’ workstations.
  3. Disable access to the New Outlook in the mailbox policy. This prevents users from accessing the New Outlook in the future.

By following these steps, users will continue working with the classic Outlook interface, ensuring uninterrupted use of the Zivver Office Plugin.

Prevent users from switching to “the New Outlook”

To ensure that users cannot switch to the new Outlook interface, the toggle to try the New Outlook must be disabled.

There are two methods to disable this toggle:

  1. Using an M365 Cloud Policy. See the Microsoft documentation for instructions.
  2. Deploying the following registry key.
Location Type Name Value
HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General DWORD HideNewOutlookToggle 1

Remove the New Outlook

Users may have already enabled the toggle to try the New Outlook. Therefore, it is important to also remove the New Outlook for users. This Microsoft guide explains how to remove the New Outlook for your users.

In some cases, a user may report that Outlook has disappeared. This is likely because they were opening the New Outlook via the New Outlook icon. To resolve this, ask the user to search for “Outlook” in the Windows search bar. They should then be able to find and open the classic version of Outlook.

Disable access to the New Outlook in the mailbox policy

After disabling the toggle to try the New Outlook and removing the New Outlook for users, you must disable access to the New Outlook in the mailbox policy. This Microsoft guide explains how to disable access to the New Outlook in the mailbox policy.

Follow all steps
It is important to complete steps 1 and 2 before proceeding with this step. If you skip steps 1 and 2, the user may be logged out of the New Outlook when you apply this step. This can lead to login issues, where the New Outlook app remains installed, and the user can still toggle the switch to try the New Outlook again.
